Linda and I just got back from New York City for our Fall 2012 buy. We spent 2 days, searching and finding all these great new styles that we know you will all appreciate.

Our first day was spent going to all the showrooms we could fit in. We hammered up and down and around 5th Ave, finding ourselves excited for the new styles our favorite designers are putting out.

Visiting the Donald J. Pliner is always a treat. The showroom saturated in inspired colors, textures, and patterns. & to make us even more excited, Mr. Pliner himself is always there to present his new line in a mini-fashion show. We were even lucky enough to have Donald (I like to pretend we are on a first name basis) offer us a glass of wine... we accepted of course, not even questioning us having our first glass before noon.

The line showed true to Pliner, with a touch of the new. The brand is also bringing prices down a touch, which will only make shopping for them, that much more rewarding. !!!

Along with Donald J. Pliner, we were lucky enough to visit the showrooms of Arche, Frye, Sofft, Michael Kors and Jack Rogers. In all of these places it was clear, Fall 2012 is looking fresh and Western. ;)

Day 2 was spent efficiently. & when I say efficiently I mean that Linda and I are known to be the type of buyers that are in and out. We make are decisions quick and it usually comes as a relief to most of the reps we deal with.

What's most fun about checking out the shows is the opportunity to check out new brands and even catch up on styles you may have missed for the soon-coming Spring season.

It's actually feeling like December this past week. The mild weather was making it tough for me to get into the holiday giving/gifting spirit! Along with our new friend, Amy, we decided to just give you a few ideas for yourself or loved lady in your life.

   Hope everyone is enjoying getting ready for the upcoming feast!

After the holiday we get to enjoy being apart of Midnight Madness in Winchester!

The madness begins at 6pm on Monday, November 28th and carries on until midnight. It is for sure one of our favorite nights of the year!

We are excited to be hosting 3 trunk shows in store the same night.

Ana with Fashion Vortex will be showing and selling her beautiful Italian imported handbags, clutches, briefcases, and scarves. The leather good she sells are the epitome of why we can't get enough of Italian leather craftmanship. (Visit fashionvortex.com to get a taste of what Ana has to offer!)

   Peggy with M. Gibson Knitwear will be bringing her selection of Fair Trade sweaters and other knitted goods. Inspired by the textiles produced by the skilled local artisans in Peru, Peggy began to develop her own designs and worked with Peruvian women's knitting cooperatives to produce them. The skillful knitters who work with the company are often the sole supporters of their families and have always received living wages.

Along with our Trunk Shows we will be gearing up for entertainment for the Winchester Community Music School and food provided by Pairings of Winchester.

Mary-Janes... School girl shoe no more!

Hey Ladies,

So it has happened often; a woman walks in and tries on a pair of shoes, which happen to be a mary-jane, & they look fabulous! Though, 75% of the time the woman says to me, "They are nice, but don't they make me look like a little girl?"

Let me be blunt. Mary-Janes are a school-girl shoe no longer! Ladies, a mary-jane with any sort of heel that you find our store, is not for a girl under the age of ten.

Though these shoe may have been a classic when you were skipping around in the playground, they have grown up too!

The mary-jane has actually shown itself to be on trend for the Fall season, with the perfect mix of style, flirt, and fabulous.

As our Fall styles come in, I encourage you to try on the mary-jane and mix it up a bit...

We are having a moving and grooving sort of week here at the store.

It's Art in August, our Semi-Annual Sale is chugging along and we are receiving boxes of new shoes and boots in weekly!

Fall is in the air. The breeze that came in through the bedroom window last night was divine!

The first of our Frye boots are here! The "Harness" boot has proven itself classic. Many ladies remember their Frye boots from when they were in high school. Here is your chance to fall in love with them all over again! Made in the USA, a pair of Frye boots is a must for any gals closet. This is our first season with Frye and we are very excited to see how you ladies react to this classic!

There is nothing ordinary about the "Malena" by Donald J. Pliner. The distressed leather, prolonged toe, and mesh sling back makes for a shoe that is both a show stopper and one you can wear from day to night.

Treasure by NAOT has been by far one of our best of the season. This Sandal offers a bit of a wedge, amazing support and the perfect amount of edge. The lines are chic and the steel color is a great way of falling out of the normal tans and brown colors of Spring and Summer.

These navy closed toe espadrilles have my two favorite components of this season: Cream and Navy. This color combo has been catching my eye all over. I like to consider it, a modest girl's way to color block. ;){KORS by Michael Kors: Dorothy}

{Stuart Weitzman - Alex}

Stuart Weitzman was just recently quoted, “Make your own curve. Don’t try to jump on the bandwagon. Pick a different route and [build] your own look, your own personality, like Lady Gaga did. We all know there are greater voices out there, but she figured it out and made a niche. That is what some of the greatest footwear designers out there have done, too.”

...Well Stuart, I agree. ;) I am a fan of pretty much everything Gaga puts out, from her music to her wild style, & a fan of the way Stuart Weitzman makes a positively gorgeous shapes in his shoes. The "Alex" is a prime example of how Stuart (I like to think we are on a first name basis) adds a twist to the classic. The wedge is high and the platform is just right. It has a nautical look that isn't nautical at all. Oh, Stuart... you must have had a conversation with my friend Stephanie (Lady Gaga).

We've been very busy recently at Mad...

Lots and Lots of New Spring styles... and it's looking like the ladies are finally starting to get that Spring fever.

I am super happy to be able to have the doors open today and see all the ladies coming in with sandals and open-toe shoes on their minds.

We are also very excited about our Preview tonight. Paulina Benninga designer of Salomé Marcus wedding gowns is coming in tonight with her model to show her 2012 Collection Preview.
Her dresses are so pleasing to the eye. She takes a traditional wedding dress and brings it to a different level, with new textures and shapes. I am in love.

C'mon just do it!

... Even though the weather isn't being kind enough to let us into the Spring frame of mind.

Today at Mad About Shoe, I am working on mini-projects within the store... getting Spring Styles in order, placing Fall '11 orders, and attempting to ignore the flurries that have been falling outside all day.

The only thing keeping me from going outside and cursing the skies are the gorgeous new Spring sandals, wedges, flats, mid-heels, and pumps we have parading through our store. Believe it or not, it is the time of year to give your toes some breathing room. So, get inspired! Bring some color into your wardrobe! And let us all slowly begin putting away our boots, tights, sweaters, and ear muffs. Maybe if we all do this, Mother Nature will start to get the hint.

Anywho, the new Spring styles are pouring in and the Winter boots are going out!

Whew. Excuse me while I kick up my legs and take a quick nap. Linda and I just got back from our annual New York City Fall shopping trip for Mad About Shoe. It is always exciting and exhausting when I get to visit NYC. It is usually encompassed with friends, running here and there, admiration of the beautiful NYC has to offer, and late nights.
Visiting with Linda for Mad About Shoe is the same but different. We throw in some designer showrooms, a peak into amazing Fall styles, and an intoxicating amount of leather and fashion, which leaves a very content, and exhausted Erica.

We spent the first day of our shopping trip checking out the showrooms of some of our favorite designers in store. Stuart Weitzman, Michael Kors, Ara, Arche, Geox, and Donald J. Pliner. I would have to say that though I was super excited to get a glimpse into the Michael Kors showroom (his handbag room was glorious!), Donald J. Pliner certainly has the showroom with the most pizazz.
You take the elevator up 30 floors and enter into Pliner's oasis of textures and culture. The walls are white and covered with masks and shoes alike. His floors are black with zebra rugs (I would like to think that they are faux). And Mr. Pliner is always present. He was gracious enough to actually present his line to us and a few other visitors in a small version of a runway show. It was an absolute delight and what I would like to consider my "New York Moment".

The second day was spent in the Hilton visiting the designers who are not based in New York City. In the Hilton, we get to visit with designers we carry in the store and are also more apt to visit with potential new brands and get an idea if they would fit in with our Mad About Shoe ladies or not. Aquatalia, Gabor, Paul Green and FS/NY were among the brands we got to check out. And though the colors for Fall 11' are a bit dull, the styles and shapes make up for the lack there of.

Thankfully our train was not canceled due to the never ending snow in Boston, and we made it back from our whirlwind trip safe and sound.

The next few weeks will consist of making our Fall 11' buy and our on-going semi-annual sale!
And thankfully, we are getting some Spring styles trickling into the store this past week. :)

Hoping the season is faring you all well.

The days have been bitter cold, and we all know that the snow is somewhere around the corner... With lots of gift shopping on the mind, it is a little difficult to get yourself in the mindset of buying something for yourself. (Note: We do have a Mad About Shoe Wishlist Registry in store... Holiday Greetings!

Thank you to all who came out last Monday evening for Winchester's annual Midnight Madness event. We had great fun here at Mad About Shoe and were busy the whole night through. It was great to see our loyal customers and some new faces too! Many thanks to the students from the Winchester Community Music School, and also to local buskers, Yesterday's Bait, for entertaining us.

I am getting very excited to indulge on the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. The idea of family, food, and what outfit I will put together makes me a bit too excited. I will probably, and usually do, opt for a high-waist skirt (brown and gold tones) and a blouse with flow. This is how I picture it all going. Opaque tights, tucked into the perfect boot.

I have yet to find the blouse. But, I do think the boot just fell into my lap at Mad About Shoe this morning.......yay! We just got in this boot by Sofft this morning. With the perfect touch of sophistication and my favorite mix of textures... this boot may be it.

I hope your Turkey day is full of warmth, laughter, style, and yummy eats.

The Start of Something New. :)

Hello All,

We are so excited about the launch of our website and the progress we have made in the store going into our third season. A small introduction of moi... My name is Erica Fernandes, and I am the manager at Mad About Shoe. I also assist Linda (Sharpe, owner and my wonderful boss :) ) in the buying process.

We are having a blast getting to know our customers, what you ladies love, and what works for us as a whole.

I think the store has come a very long way since Linda took over in June of 09'. Our ladies (by ladies I mean customers) have done a fantastic job of supporting us through our transition and the store is really starting to bloom, even in this chilled and bare late Fall season.

I encourage you to stop in the shop, say hello, try some boots and shoes on, and enjoy the atmosphere.

And make sure to check our blog from time to time. I promise to fill it up with details of new goodies in our shop, and great fashion tidbits. :)
